Familie Rossler - Schank - Um Knapphaff

Since 2020, the Rossler-Schank family has been dedicated to mushroom cultivation on their farm "Um Knapphaff" in Knaphoscheid in the north of Luxembourg. The conversion to organic farming took place in 2021. Before this change, Dan Rossler was actively involved in pig fattening and the associated grain cultivation also took place on the farm. Due to market developments, the family decided to rethink the direction of their farm and look for alternatives to the previous sources of income.

Since 2018, Dan and his wife Nadine, a teacher, have also been implementing the educational farm concept. The crisis in the pig industry and the educational farm concept ultimately served as an impetus to take a closer look at organic farming. The former pigsties proved to be suitable for the production of organic mushrooms, and so the idea of specialising in the cultivation of these mushrooms was born. Contact with the wholesaler Biogros opened up sales opportunities for this idea.

On the farm, educational work with people is an integral part of the entire agricultural operation. In addition to children and young people, older people are also reconnecting with animals and farming. The concept of animal-assisted education is being continuously expanded.

"We have to take care of our world and organic simply makes sense in the long term."
